It's a desktop Mac, so the 21.5in iMac is obviously best for someone who doesn't mind being tied to their desk. Or perhaps you already own a laptop and need a more powerful machine. There are many mobile photo editing apps available across all of the app stores, making it tough to choose which ones to use. Here are 20 of the best photo editing apps that you should consider. Photoshop uses the CPU for the majority of its tasks, so aim for 3 GHz or higher for best results. I found 2.6 GHz in a Macbook to be great for most things, but it slowed down when applying complex filters and using large brushes. However, the 3.5 GHz processor in my iMac has yet to meet its match.

Dec 17, 2020 As with the 27-inch iMac, if you don't mind getting slightly older hardware, you can save a decent amount of cash when buying a 21.5-inch iMac for photo editing. The 2017 model may now be showing its age, but it still offers acceptable performance when it comes to photo editing.

Best Imac For Photo Editing 2016

[Editor's note: This piece is from 2016, but has been so popular we are re-featuring it for those of you who may have missed out!]

Adobe photoshop cc program. The High Tech Hobbyist has compiled a list of the five best free photo editing applications of 2016. Photoshop is fantastic and I think that around $10 a month for Photoshop and Lightroom is a solid deal. But it's still $120 a year that could've been spent elsewhere. If you want to be frugal without losing all of Photoshop's capabilities, consider the free photo editors below.

You can find a lot of the same great features you find in Photoshop in the free GIMP. Available for Windows, Mac and Linux, GIMP also supports plugins. For GIMP tutorials, see the video below or check out this list.

More similar in layout to Photoshop is Pixlr. What makes Pixlr stand out is that it's available as a browser-based editor and as a mobile app (for Android and iOS devices). Without needing to download anything, you can open up Pixlr.com and go to work on your images inside your preferred browser.

Photoscape is available for Mac and Windows and is the simplest editor of the bunch. You can apply filters, crop and do some other basic adjustments to your images. Also available is a simple GIF creator tool. This is a rather watered down editor, however.

To see the other two (Windows-exclusive) free photo editing applications, check out the full list at The High Tech Hobbyist.
